title: TrustMRR case — 24-hour build, viral tweet, sponsor slots ($299 → $1,500/month), then a marketplace
slug: trustmrr-sponsorship-launch-case
summary: Marc Lou's TrustMRR (verified Stripe revenue board) went from a reply to Pieter Levels' tweet to ~$20k in 2–3 days by selling 20 capped, rotating sponsor slots and raising the price from $299 to $699 to $1,500/month; by Sept 2026 it made ~$44k/month from sponsors, listing add-ons and a 3% acquisition fee.

# TrustMRR case — sponsor slots on a viral launch

## TL;DR
- Idea came from a live conversation: Pieter Levels complained about faked revenue screenshots; Marc Lou built the fix in <24 h and quote-tweeted him (~3M views).
- No product monetisation at launch — just sponsor cards linking to Stripe payment links.
- Scarcity pricing: max 20 sponsors at a time, rotating; $299/month → half sold in 2–3 hours → $699 → $1,500/month.
- ~$20k in 2–3 days, matching his top three products that he'd spent months on.
- Ship user-requested features publicly (categories, embeddable badge, dark mode, a guessing game) to keep the story going.
- A year on: ~$44k/month; Marc calls a marketplace that sells trust an AI-proof moat.

## Details
**Build and launch (Oct–Nov 2025).** The site: a "verify your startup" button (read-only Stripe key + Twitter handle), a page per startup with a revenue chart, and search. Marc shared it live and quoted Pieter's original tweet; the post got close to 3M views.[^1][^2] He credits the "two-act story": Pieter set up the problem, Marc closed it with a product — without that context he thinks it would have done far worse.[^3]

**Monetisation.** At first only a link to his Twitter, his ShipFast boilerplate and a live DataFast map widget (to cross-sell DataFast). Then sponsor slots on the side. Because sponsor value depends on scarcity, he capped advertisers at 20, rotating "like Times Square" so all show within seconds. Starting at $299/month, half sold within 2–3 hours, so he raised to $699 and then $1,500/month, and it kept selling.[^2][^4]

**Iteration in public.** He built what commenters asked for and shared each feature: categories (SaaS, course, marketplace), an embeddable dynamic revenue badge, dark mode, and a game guessing which of two verified startups earns more (~100k clicks). Big founders joined, including Sahil Lavingia of Gumroad.[^4][^5][^6]

**Later numbers (Marc, Sept 2026).** TrustMRR at an all-time high of ~$44k/month: ~$20k sponsors, ~$15k listing add-ons for sellers wanting visibility, ~$4k from a 3% fee on ~30 acquisitions that month. 200k+ unique visitors in the month.[^11] A month earlier (Aug 2026) he showed ~$37k/month against roughly $500/month of expenses, for a site he says he vibe-coded in about six hours.[^12] Marc says his whole portfolio is near $100k/month at ~85% margin, run by two people.[^7][^8] It took about 7 months after the viral launch for revenue to become steady and driven by acquisitions rather than sponsorships.[^9]

**Moat thesis.** Marc spends about half his time on TrustMRR because a marketplace sells trust, which big AI labs can't copy the way they can copy a small tool.[^10]

## Disagreements / caveats
- Highly dependent on Marc's existing audience and on being part of the conversation (Pieter Levels); the sponsor price is set by the audience size, not by the product.
- All figures are Marc's own (shown on his Stripe/TrustMRR dashboards); TrustMRR itself is the verification tool.
