title: Who to hire for organic UGC growth (and when to use an agency)
slug: organic-ugc-team-roles
summary: The roles an organic short-form program needs — on-camera talent, a creative strategist, and in a full team a head of social growth, a creator manager/coach and a talent scout — why the "all-rounder" doesn't exist, and when an agency makes sense ($0 vs $50–100k/month).

# Who to hire for organic UGC growth

## TL;DR (Joseph Choi, Sept 2026)
- Don't hire one person for everything — creative strategy, format replication on camera and outreach are different skill sets; only founders tend to do all of it.[^1][^2]
- Minimum split: **talent** (on camera: angle, lighting, pacing, tone, caption placement) and **creative strategist** (what the algorithm pushes and what converts).[^1][^3]
- Full team, "non-negotiable": **head of social growth** (watches viral content all day, extracts principles), **creator manager/coach** (reviews every video, adjusts hooks, storyline, CTA, visuals), **talent scout** (outreach to thousands of creators, recruiting pipelines).[^4][^5]
- Without a scrutinising creator manager, TikTok feels like a lottery.[^5]
- At **$0/month**, stay scrappy and own the strategy yourself; at **$50–100k/month**, an agency or help setting up in-house can make sense.[^6][^9]

## Details
**Strategy matters most.** At StudyFetch (reported 2B views, eight-figure ARR) the CMO and his team are the strategists; creators bring talent, strategy drives results.[^3]

**Agency risk.** A founder told Joseph they wasted $30k/month on an agency with good case studies but misaligned incentives. Know which roles you need before outsourcing.[^7]

**Where to find people.** Joseph hunts Discord, X DMs and Telegram for young freelancers with one or two strong case studies who haven't joined an agency yet.[^8]

## Disagreements / caveats
- These roles describe a mature program; Nicole Cheung's creator-course model (see [[ugc-creator-onboarding-course]]) folds coaching into a recorded course plus founder oversight.
- Joseph monetises introductions to such hires through his paid community.
