# Validating Meta SDK app events against App Store Connect

## TL;DR
- When starting out, the **Meta SDK** alone is enough — no MMP needed.[^1]
- Send: **app install**, **paywall view** (standard event *View Content*), **initiate checkout**, **start trial**, **subscribe**.[^1][^2]
- Aim for paywall view ≈ **100% of installs** (paywall in onboarding).[^1]
- Cross-check the same 28-day window: Meta installs vs ASC downloads, Meta trials vs ASC free-trial starts. "Close" is good enough.[^3][^4]

## Details
**Where to look in Meta:** Events Manager (left sidebar) → **Data sets** → your app → set the date range.[^2]

**Where to look in App Store Connect:**[^3][^4]
- Downloads: Analytics → total downloads, same dates.
- Trials: Analytics → Metrics → **Subscriptions → Events → Offer starts**, filter to **Free trial starts**.

**Steve's real check (Sep 14–Oct 10, 2026):** ASC ~3,000 downloads vs Meta a bit over 4,000 (Meta ~40/day vs ASC ~60/day on daily averages); ASC 312 free-trial starts vs Meta 276. He considered that close enough to launch — trials, the optimization event, matter most.[^3][^4]

**Why the events:** each tells Meta who is likelier to go further (paywall → checkout → trial → subscribe), and trial is the event you'll optimize on.[^1]

**Web2app alternative.** Running the purchase on the web makes it easier to send conversion events to Meta, TikTok or Snap without ATT-prompt headaches.[^5]

## Disagreements / caveats
- Numbers will never match exactly; Steve doesn't know why Meta over-counted installs in his example. Investigate only large gaps.
- An MMP becomes necessary once you run several paid channels.
