title: Landing pages for Meta ads — congruency, listicles and sales pages
slug: meta-landing-page-congruency
summary: Why Meta traffic converts better on a page that continues the ad's angle (listicles, advertorials, quizzes, nav-free sales pages) than on a PDP or homepage, with conversion-rate benchmarks and case results (+25%, +30%, $25K→$40K/day without new ads).

# Landing pages for Meta ads

## TL;DR
- **Congruency:** the page should talk about the same angle as the ad (a cortisol ad → a cortisol page), not switch to a generic pitch.[^1]
- Zach Stuck's default: **listicle first** ("5/7/10 reasons why"), built as a **shoppable listicle** (listicle on top, product page below). Across Homestead's audits, sending ads to a listicle beat sending them straight to the PDP or collection "almost always", even with OK copy.[^2][^3]
- Then test advertorials and **quizzes** — at Mars Men a quiz became a scaling channel for the same winning creatives.[^4]
- Remove distractions: Smart Marketer saw conversion rise "anytime" they removed top navigation and removed video from paid-traffic landing pages (2023).[^5][^6]
- Fix the page before the ads: a +25–30% conversion lift cuts CPA by roughly the same amount without touching Ads Manager.[^7]

## Details
**Benchmarks (Smart Marketer, 2023 ecommerce).** Product pages under ~2–3% conversion need work; a nav-free, sales-page-style page for Big Life Journal converted ~8%; Talking Point Cards' PDP ~12% (benefit-led emoji bullets instead of features).[^8][^9][^10]

**Cases.**
- *Averaglow (acne skincare):* PDP rebuilt as a simpler sales page without top nav, new copy and structure → **+25%** conversion.[^8]
- *Dr. Livingood (supplements, free-plus-shipping book front end):* rewritten by copywriters (storytelling, bonuses, testimonials), video removed, page shortened → **+30%** conversion; spend went from ~$25K to $40K/day in weeks with **no new ads** (~500 extra customers/day). The team predicted it would lose.[^11][^12]
- *Ella + Mila (nail polish):* a category page with best-selling colours plus Facebook/Instagram Shop checkout took them from ~$2–4K to $13–15K/day; ~half of 10K purchases came via the Shop. Works for brands with ~15–20+ SKUs and little education needed.[^13][^14]
- *Motion (B2B):* ads with ~5% CTR but poor sign-ups pointed to the homepage; the fix was a dedicated page whose headline continued the ad.[^15]

**Avatar pages.** Once a new avatar works, build a landing page with imagery and messaging just for that person — Meta indexes it too (Molly Pittman, 2026).[^16]

**Bigger swings beat micro tests.** Test completely different pages, not button colours — that's the difference between 3% and 30% gains.[^17]

## Disagreements / caveats
- Zach's and Smart Marketer's pages are DTC/info; Meta's own landing-page signals and policy (e.g. navigation requirements Molly recalls from ~2017) change over time.[^6]
- Molly's 2023 claims about removing video come from heat-map observations on their clients, not controlled tests across categories.
