title: Launching Meta ads for a new DTC brand — product, pillars, statics first
slug: meta-dtc-brand-launch-playbook
summary: The zero-to-one sequence from Zach Stuck (Mars Men, Hollow) and Dara Denney — pick a product/AOV that Meta economics can carry, "spiderweb" every problem the product can solve into pillars, test pillars with cheap statics in one purchase-optimised campaign, then add $100 creator videos and listicle landing pages.

# Launching Meta ads for a new DTC brand

## TL;DR
1. **Product before ads.** Few SKUs (Mars Men is still one SKU), large TAM, ideally subscription/repeat, function over trend, and a product you can talk about many different ways.[^1][^2]
2. **Check AOV.** Dara Denney audits product assortment before creative: a $50 hairbrush may never scale on Meta as CPMs rise — build bundles (e.g. "Everything" bundles like HexClad's and Magic Spoon's) to raise AOV.[^3][^4]
3. **Spiderweb the pillars.** Map every problem the product connects to (testosterone → weight loss, cortisol, energy, caffeine dependence) in a Figma board; each is a messaging pillar.[^5][^6]
4. **Statics first** in one purchase-optimised campaign to find which pillar, headline or visual cue gets traction; then AI video or ~$100 creator storytelling ads on the promising pillar.[^7][^8][^9]
5. **Listicle landing page** congruent with the pillar, before PDP; skip expensive website design and custom packaging early (white bottle first).[^10][^11]

## Details
**Why statics first.** They're cheap and fast, and you don't yet know which language resonates — don't jump to video or over-engineer the funnel.[^12] Dara's lean setup is the same: one ASC, ~10 creatives, mostly statics (benefit call-outs, us-vs-them, headline, ugly ads, testimonials).[^13]

**Expect surprises.** At Hollow (socks), the pillar that clicked wasn't the one Zach expected; doubling down on it built an eight-figure business.[^14]

**Channel choice.** Of 500–600 brands Homestead audited, Zach saw almost none break out first on a channel other than Meta (occasionally TikTok); organic-first only works if the product is tied to a founder story.[^15][^16]

**What still wins.** Real-feeling stories from a real person ("yappers"), whether influencer, whitelisted creator or even a convincing AI video — at any budget.[^17] Watch organic feeds for new filming styles: Hollow's breakthrough came from full-body shots after years of face-to-camera ads.[^18]

**Multiple products.** Don't advertise all 50 products — find the most scalable product/bundle offer for Meta and push others through email/SMS.[^19]

## Disagreements / caveats
- Zach's playbook is supplements/apparel with strong margins; Dara's AOV warning matters most for low-ticket products.
- Dara's bundle examples come from Particl (her sponsor).
