# Five levels of Meta advertiser maturity

## TL;DR
Use this ladder to audit your own account or a competitor's in the Ad Library ([[people/ben-heath]], Jul 2026):

| Level | Example | Typical failing → upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | **Renault** | Boring corporate statics and repurposed TV spots, **hashtags in ads**, vague CTAs → make native assets (UGC, influencers) with clear CTAs[^1][^2] |
| 2 | **IKEA** | A decent video wasted on a cluttered catch-all page; product colour differs between ad and page → dedicated, congruent landing pages[^3][^4] |
| 3 | **New Balance** | One creative style made at scale, one expensive hero video, weak CTA → branch into more formats and styles[^5][^6] |
| 4 | **HelloFresh** | 78 active ads, UGC plus high-production plus creator partnerships plus review statics; but **one offer** and **one landing page** → offers and pages per avatar[^7][^8][^9] |
| 5 | **Huel** | 300+ ads (podcast-style, myth-busting FAQ, ASMR UGC, meme statics); the same offer reframed per pain point; demographic call-outs ("men over 50"); offer-matched landing pages[^10][^12][^11] |

## Details
**What separates 4 from 5.** Huel's variety comes from a "well-oiled machine" across Facebook, Instagram, Audience Network, Messenger and Threads, but the real step up is reframing the offer per avatar.[^12] Huel runs two ads for the same flexible plan (£30.50, or £1.79 per meal). One leads with the freebie, the other with breakfast decision fatigue. Same offer, different customers. Demographic-specific ads are costly, because you need one per group, but convert well when done properly.[^10][^11]

**Recurring lessons:**
- Ads made for the platform beat repurposed ones.
- Production value matters for trust in consumables like food (HelloFresh).
- Clear CTAs matter even in brand ads.
- The post-click page must continue the ad: New Balance's direct product page is "exactly what you'd want".[^6][^9]

## Disagreements / caveats
- These are judgements from the **outside**. Ben sees ads and pages, not results. IKEA's ad had reached 8.7M accounts, so it may perform fine.[^4]
- The level-4 critique, a single offer, may be a deliberate brand-consistency choice. Ben concedes this.[^8]
- Ad counts change daily, and these are mid-2026 snapshots.
