# Finding international ASO opportunities and localizing listings

## TL;DR
- Steve expects localization to be "huge" in 2026; most developers fight over the US/UK/Australia/Canada while some indies do very well in **Brazil and Thailand**.[^1]
- Check demand per country before translating: ASOMobile **Worldwide Check** shows one keyword's search score and your rank across chosen countries.[^2]
- Exploit **shared languages**: one Spanish, French or German keyword set can be checked across all countries speaking it.[^1]
- Watch revenue-by-country data for surprises — Steve noticed early traction in **Kenya** for a new app and started ASO and Apple Ads there.[^3]
- Localize screenshots too; tools like AppScreens auto-translate captions and adapt idioms (US "candy" → AU "lollies" → UK "sweets").[^4]

## Details
**Procedure (from Steve's Nov 2025 walkthrough):**
1. Enter your primary keyword (e.g. "calorie tracker") in Worldwide Check and add countries (UK, Australia, US…).[^2]
2. Compare search score and your current rank in each; prioritise countries with decent scores and weak competition.[^2]
3. For a language spoken in several countries, check the same translated keywords in each of them.[^1]
4. Localize metadata, then screenshots (below).

**Screenshot localization (AppScreens, July 2026, sponsored).** Add languages (e.g. English US/AU/UK, Spanish Mexico) → "Translate text" → review each locale; switch off automatic translation to edit by hand, or bulk import/export your own translations. Then export or upload directly to App Store Connect per locale.[^4][^5]

**Signal from revenue data.** In RevenueCat's revenue-by-country view, Steve spotted Kenya traction for a just-launched app and responded with local ASO and Apple Ads campaigns (Aug 2026).[^3]

## Disagreements / caveats
- The Brazil/Thailand remarks are anecdotal (developers Steve has talked to), not data.[^1]
- Machine-translated captions need native review; the tool lets you override them.[^5]
