slug: applovin-ad-creative
summary: Savannah Sanchez's AppLovin playbook (2026) — full-screen in-game ads unskippable for 5 s, watched ~35 s on average, 81% over 30 s; flip the social formula (low-key opening, rising action ~20 s, hard sell in the last 5 s); talking-to-camera UGC with voiceover; interactive end cards drive >50% of clicks; upload every past Meta/TikTok ad and aim for thousands of variants; weekly sprints and patience before killing high-spend ads.

# AppLovin ad creative

## TL;DR
- **Forget the scroll-stop rules.** AppLovin ads run full screen inside mobile games (Subway Surfers, Candy Crush, Solitaire, Words with Friends). They're unskippable for **5 s**, average watch is **~35 s**, and **81%** of served ads run over 30 s.[^1][^2]
- **Back-load the message.** The opening is the low point, rising action comes around **20 s**, then the climax, then the hard sell (offer, discount, CTA) in the **last 5 s**, when players are most locked in because they're about to return to the game.[^3][^4]
- Best performers: **45–60 s**, voiceover, readable captions, testimonial/narrative UGC, demos, unboxings, price-justification and objection handling. Studio footage underperforms.[^5][^6]
- **End cards** (interactive post-video screens) drive **>50% of clicks**. Once a video wins, scale it by testing many end-card variants.[^7]
- **Volume:** gaming advertisers upload tens of thousands of ads while top e-commerce brands upload hundreds. Start by uploading every ad you have ever run.[^8]

## Details
**Why it works.** Rewarded placements mean the user *chose* to watch (for coins or a life), so the psychology flips from "annoyed by ads" to "choosing to watch". Savannah treats it like a TV commercial: time to educate, build trust and handle objections.[^9] Ads appear only every 2–5 minutes of play, so each impression gets more attention than in a feed.[^10] The CTA opens your landing page in the default browser.[^11]

**Port & Leather case** (Savannah's client, 3-month test): +8,000 new customers, **+65% ROAS**, 2% better CPA, uncorrelated with other channels in a Triple Whale check. AppLovin became one of its largest paid sources of new customers.[^12]

**Creative that worked.**
- A boyfriend reviews the girlfriend's product because she's away: 60 s, no fast cuts, little B-roll. Savannah says it would flop on Meta but works here.[^13]
- An anti-hangover "experiment" story arc (pool day → who's hungover) with a resolution and then the sell.[^14]
- "Girl math" espresso-machine savings and a ClearScore whiteboard explainer on debt consolidation: educational, price-justifying.[^15][^16]
- Light gamified touches (tapping a product out of the phone, swiping products) instead of jarring hooks.[^17]
- Fake-survey format ("Do you like pilates? Yes/No") copied across clients.[^18]
- Inspiration: gaming advertisers (top spenders who set the platform norms), and *retargeting/long-form* ads in Meta's library, not top-of-funnel winners.[^19][^20]

**End-card themes:** feature call-outs pointing at the product, pop-up reviews, carousels and spiral carousels, infographics, top selling points, grids, split-screen comparisons, logo bars.[^7][^21] Pair at least one proven element per test: a new video with a proven end card, or a proven video with new end cards.[^22]

**Scaling and fatigue.** Variety matters as much as count (creators, messages, styles), not thousands of near-identical hook swaps.[^23] Frequency in a high-attention placement fatigues fast, so stretch footage with **mashups** of several creators into one 60 s ad.[^24] Iterate by isolating a variable: same creator in a new concept, same body with a new hook, or same script with a new creator.[^25]

**Cadence.** Shoot Mon–Tue, edit Wed–Thu, deliver Fri, clients launch before the weekend. For newcomers she suggests **4–12 new concepts a week** with a few hook variants each, plus the full back catalogue.[^26][^27] Advertisers she works with report a consolidated one-campaign structure works best.[^28]

## Disagreements / caveats
- Savannah's agency produces AppLovin creative, the webinar was hosted by AppLovin, and it came with a $5K ad-credit referral offer. Expect promotional framing.
- Her own data shows the format rules aren't strict: a long educational AppLovin ad became a **top performer on Meta**. Upload everywhere, don't pre-judge.[^29]
- Independent tests (Haus meta-analysis) found AppLovin's edge over other channels shrinking as spend scaled in 2026 ([[evaluating-new-ad-channels]]).
